The truth is, it is an option available on previous Windows versions but maybe some don’t know how to use it to lock the computer automatically when they stop using it.

Step by step guide to lock the computer automatically when you don’t use it for while

For this, we will take advantage of the screen saver function in Windows. The first thing we need to do is to open the settings page on Windows 10 and browse until the option Customization > Lock Screen. Once there, you will go downwards until you find the Screen Saver Settings option.

Click on it and the screen saver settings window will open up. The next thing we need to do is to choose a screen saver, we can even chose for it to be empty, which will open up the rest of the options. Now, we can chose how much time we want the system to wait to activate the screen saver when it detects that we are not using the computer. For example, 1 minute and the most important thing is to check the box Show the login screen when resuming.

So, when a minute goes by without us using the computer, or as much time as we have chosen, the screen saver will automatically activate. If we chose the empty screen option it will show in black. When we move the mouse or press a key, when choosing the show the login screen when resuming option, Windows will show us the login screen where we need to insert the password. This way, we lock the computer automatically when it is not active using the famous screen saver function on Windows.
